Better late than never!!!  Early morning on February 9, 2018 we added yet another blessing to our family in the birth of Augustine (Auggie) John weighing in at 10 lbs, 7 oz and 21 inches long.  He was born at 5:55 in the morning and we are so so glad he is here (and momma is glad he isn't in my belly anymore at that weight!).  ;)

But I think it's so important to capture the details of his entrance...especially because God was SO fully present in his arrival.  No doubt to me at all.  Let's start by saying Daddy was on a trip to Colorado that left on Monday Feb. 5th.  He was to return on Friday February 9th in the afternoon.  So I knew I'd be solo at home.  I worked out backups but was still a little nervous about going into labor without him.  Grandpa Dan ended up coming up Tuesday through Thursday just to be here in the event I'd go into labor in the evening and to help with the other kiddos.  But on Monday I just couldn't shake some feeling that I wanted Michael home.  So I called him on Monday and asked if he'd fly home just one day earlier, on Thursday.  Needless to say that was GOD!  Because there was a major snowstorm on Friday and all the other people flying back didn't get home until SATURDAY!  Unreal.

I stayed up late that night watching sad movies.  I had heard that a good cry can release hormones that can induce labor.  ;)  Daddy went to bed early and I hung out downstairs watching these movies.  About 11:30 I decided to head up to bed.  I fell asleep briefly but woke up just not feeling right.  I got up to go to the bathroom and when I laid back down I heard a pop...water broke!  Then the contractions started.  They were short at first.  Twenty seconds or so...but they started to come fast...so we called Jude to come over (Emily relieved him shortly after).  We headed in.  Contractions were coming quickly (every 2-3 min) and were short but intense.  When we got to the hospital and were walking in we actually met Lyndsey Day (dear friend, and Doctor) who would be delivering this little man.  We skipped triage and headed into the delivery room.  Things were happening pretty fast.  I could barely move from the intensity of the contractions.  The nurses were really struggling trying to get an IV in my arm because I was sweating so badly...and Lyndsey really wanted it to happen to slow the contractions down.  Finally after a few pokes they got it in...but at this point I was in rough shape.  Shaking pretty terribly...I remember laying on my side and feeling like God was saying, epidural.  I didn't even think I would say it out loud but I did.  Twice.  I just felt like I needed it for some reason...the contractions started to slow down a little (thanks to the medicine in the IV which was good because this little man was in distress) and I started to feel a little bit better.
Seemed like the epidural could happen.

I sat up to receive it and once I got it things changed!!!  Amazing how much better I felt.  It was time to push...except when I started pushing something was wrong.  This little guy was stuck.  Doc Day said she knew it right away...I clearly remember two nurses on top of me while I was pushing, using their whole body weight to help force this little guy out.  I caught a glimpse of him before they wisked him away because he wasn't breathing.  He very much looked like a Havercamp.   We still didn't know it was a boy until Doc Day called him a he.  :)  The worked on him in the corner and the sweetest sound was him crying.  After about ten minutes of them working him up we finally got to hold this little creation.  Unbelievable goodness.  So incredibly thankful.  More days away from the delivery makes me realize how it all is really a miracle.  God must have big plans for this kiddo because of fighting so hard to keep him safe.

Augustine John was born on February 9, 2018 weighing 10 pounds 7 ounces.  He was 21 inches long and full of chunky perfection.  He was given his name by his brother Jackson who suggested it to which we replied, "not so sure buddy."  But the day after he said it, we heard it day after day for about a week in church settings.  In staff prayer, in an Ignite talk, in a funeral program.  It was clear God was telling us to name him Augustine, "Auggie".  John is the book of the bible that Michael came to Christ in and 1 John contains my favorite verse, "We love because he first loved us."

This is the truth little Auggie.  Our love is just a reflection of a savior who loves you even more than we do.  But I am ever grateful we know this overflow.  What a gift.

Yep.  A month later and I'm finally getting to a post.  Almost a month later and I'm finally writing about our new addition...This might be an indication of how it's been going.  This little man is the sweetest, sweetest little guy but he definitely isn't a fan of being set down to sleep on his own.  So it's been a lot of nights sleeping in a recliner so as to be able to hold him...We are adapting.  Currently he's sleeping in the rock n play (for the first time) and taking a morning snooze.  It might be because I've started to incorporate rice cereal into every other bottle.  He just seems so much more content.  But it's day by day so I'm holding loosely.  ;)

The previous paragraph was from my attempt to write the birth story a month after birth.  Today was Auggie's baptism and I finally sat down to finish this blog.  It has been a whirlwind. A lot has happened since this little guy has been born.  But that being said, he is INCREDIBLE. Auggie is the easiest, happiest baby...and today we welcomed him in the Catholic church by baptism.  It was a wonderful day.  I'm so incredibly humbled and thankful.
