Faith Like a Child
I have to take a moment to share this story before I get
distracted. It’s a crazy busy week. We closed on a house yesterday, more of that
story later. So in the middle of packing
boxes and painting I’m reminded of the simplicity and faith of a child. I don’t want to forget this so I had to stop
briefly to share it…
Today Grandma Joan came to take the kids to the park to give
me yet another break so I could pack some more boxes. As they left the house Jackson INSISTED on
bringing two basketballs along to the park.
Joan shared that when they got to the park and were playing Jackson kicked
the basketball and it landed deep in the creek.
For those of you who know Duck Creek it’s not exactly small and the
ravine that surrounds it is quite steep.
Jackson begged Grandma Joan to go and get it but she knew there was no
way they could safely accomplish it.
Joan explained to Jackson that it was too cold and dangerous and they
just couldn’t do it.
Jackson says, “Well let’s pray to God because He can make
anything happen.”
So there at that park, out loud in typical Jackson spontaneous
prayer fashion he prayed his prayer to God, asking Him to help them find a way
to get the ball.
No joke this is what happens. Less than a minute later a City of Davenport
truck pulls up to work at the park.
Jackson flags them over and asks them if they can get his ball out of
the creek. The workers looked, saw where
the ball was at and hesitated. But after
a minute of assessing the situation one of the workers said okay. She grabbed a repelling rope, hooked it in to
the side of the ravine and repelled her way down to the creek to get the ball. Victory.
I think the most incredible part of the story is that Jackson didn't even question that God could do it. And He did. Oh my gosh. Seriously I don’t ever want to forget this story. I want him to ALWAYS know that confidence of faith…and wouldn’t my life be a little better if I had an OUNCE more of that kind of trust in God. We are told over and over again that if we ask He will respond...and yet I lack the faith to even ask. Thank you little man for reminding me of that kind of trust. We are so blessed to see our God through Jackson’s eyes. J
