Life with the Camps @ the Podey's
So this time I get to write! Yes! Auntie Kenzie! I will make this quick as I am SURE one of them will wake up soon :)
This week I have been totally and unbelievably blessed to get some alone time with Jackson and Addie. They are wonderful and well behaved kids and so easy to take care of. I only hope that someday I can raise my kids to have the outgoing and charming personality of Jackson or the sweet and happy disposition of Addie.
Monday was my last day of school and I RUSHED home to be ready for the kids when Luke got home :) The car was PACKED and we had no idea what it took to travel with two kids! We quickly ate supper and got to be a part of Jackson's 1st fishing experience. He was so patient for a 3 yr old. Lucky, LP had plenty of fish to catch that night, so his patience was not tested. Jackson had no problems touching the fish, but just was not quite ready to actually hold the fish for a picture! Even though we were there til about 8:30 Addie was so great and just enjoyed the fresh air AND believe it or not...sitting on the grass! When we got home, Jax helped us out on our "farm" by watering the plants. Uncle Luke trusted him to use the garden sprayer to water the flowers, which ended up with Luke soaked to the bone! We both had to laugh behind Jackson's back though. Both of the kids were pooped and we all enjoyed a full night's sleep that night! Woohoo!
So talk about getting your max dosage of parenting right? Tuesday we woke up to find Jax had a bit of a tummy ache, Addie had a runny nose and quite the cough, and I had pink eye. The highlight of our day was going to the doctor, and of course, Jax schmoozing over the doctor and nurse. We ended the appointment by him saying "Thank you doctor for making my auntie feel better"....with no prompts! The nurse and him exchanged in some tractor/farm talk...surprise!
We enjoyed the BEAUTIFUL Iowa weather that day by hanging out outside and watching Jackson run through the sprinkler. That night, Uncle Luke promised Jackson that he could help him mow the lawn on his John Deere mower. Jax did not forget that promise and was so cute pretending to help out!
We have both really enjoyed having Jax and Addie this week and would welcome them to come and stay (longer). I cannot believe how attached I had grown to them in only 3 days' time. Leaving them was SO hard and brought tears to my eyes. I cannot imagine how hard it is for Tash and Michael as they are out of town this week!
Finally getting time to finish this post :)
On Monday, our dean of students shared a quote from the book "Bloom". The mother in the story writes "Take time to drink in the little moments". Before we left for the summer, Shannon told us she didnt want to see us at school for the whole month of June. She and our principal told us that we NEED to stay home, relax, and drink in those moments with our children and families. I thought this didn't apply to me since I dont have children, but boy was I wrong. When I looked at how ridiculously messy the house was and should clean it, that quote reminded me to instead get on the floor with Addie to play, snuggle them in bed, or drive stinkin' tractors around the house. I think this is why it was SO hard for me to say goodbye to them yesterday.
This week has been a whirlwind, and sometimes I felt as though myself as "Kenzie" was dead to the world. I truly understood what is was like to give that up for kids....and I totally loved it. Luke and I enjoyed a night out (by ourselves) last night. Props to Tash and Michael for actually scheduling time for date nights. I feel like I finally got my husband back :) p.s. we need to start saving money for those now!
And while I totally admire how Luke was with the kids, this is just a reminder how much we enjoy our married time to ourselves...for now...
Some things Jackson said this week that TOTALLY made my heart melt and fall in love AGAIN with his unique personality:
* "Thank you doctor for making my Auntie Kenzie feel better!"
* "Did you say butt? Thats not funny, that's bad." (To Uncle Luke)
* "I wanna pray for Luke's John Deere lawn mower".."Okay Jackson, WHO do you want to pray for?"..."I wanna pray for Uncle Luke because he drives the John Deere lawn mower"....lol
* "I wanna pray for Uncle Cass because he has funny hair"
* "Addie is SO a stinker...Addie is so stinker!"
* "Did you know I"m gonna grow up to be a farmer tonight after my sleep?"
And my favorite this week that immediately brought tears to my eyes...We were calming down for bed and Jax was talking...I told him we need to whisper because Addie was sleeping, and the last thing he said to me in his whisper voice was ...
"Auntie Kenzie...Do you know that I love you soooo much?"
Reeling in the first fish of the night!
Just hangin out!
Farmer Jackson
