30 Days of Thanksgiving: Day 4
I'm so thankful to be raised a farm girl. And there are days that I just ache with the desire to live out in the country. I love my neighborhood, I'm so thankful for our house...but I'm extremely grateful to have grown up the way I did...to have freedom and open spaces, time to explore and memories of fields, hay bails, corn and tractors.
And tonight. . .I relived that with my son. We spent an hour on the floor 'farming' together. He 'planted the corn' while I combined and fed the cows. We switched off. He greeted each piece of farm equipment he had with a hello. Hi combine. Hi tractor. Hi hay bailer. Hi bin...and so on and so on. He went out back with out neighbor kids and said, "Hey guys, I've got a combine and tractor (he was carrying them-we don't leave home without them:)) and he said, "Their magic." Lol. I laughed and I secretly smiled at the thought that he loves it so much because of what he has experienced on my parents farm...and he has the same place in his heart for it that I do.
Sue Jackson told me that she was driving with four adults the other day and asked them what a certain part on a piece of machinery was that they saw in the field. No one knew except Sue...and that was because Jackson taught her that the long thing that comes out of the combine and shoots the corn is an auger. Love. It.
And then I put him to bed in his John Deere world. He's sleeping in the tent downstairs. John Deere pajamas. John Deere hat. John Deere sleeping bag. Six tractors. His John Deere semi, planter, combine and wagon. John Deere pillow...heck even his underwear have John Deere on it that his sitter made for him! And he was singing..."John Deere, makes a better plow, John Deere, I can show you how..." Ahh...my heart smiled. I'm so thankful for the farm, for my roots and better yet-that my son has such an obsession with it. I know someday he will outgrow it-so for today I want to thank God that him and I share that same passion and love of the country life.
