30 Days of Thanksgiving: Day 22
Today I realized how thankful I am to have had the influence of grandparents in my life. We celebrated my Grandma Heuton's birthday tonight with dinner at mom and dad's house. She is not a biological grandma but has become as much of a grandma to us as our other grandmas. I love her dearly and am so thankful to have her in our lives. I realize how lucky we are to have their influence especially as I look at other people who no longer have grandparents in their lives.
My Grandma Weitl always stirred my ice cream for me...and she would still do it if I asked her. :) I used to go to her house after school and she was always there with a snack (usually vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup or a cookie of some sort). She has always been this constant in my life. She still is someone I bring my sewing too and I know she has holes in the knees of many pants because of the prayers she offers up for her children.
Thirteen years ago I lost my Grandpa Floyd to cancer and he was like a second dad to me. We spent so much time together as I stayed about 3-4 nights a week at their house when I was in high school. We would watch Packer games together and critique their ability. He definitely was like a second father...
This week also marked the 2 year anniversary of the loss of my Grandma Rita who in my mind is still not gone. I go home and expect to see her there...I think it's mostly because she had such an incredible spirit that it can't really die. I thank God for a woman like that in my life...the quote that I put with a picture of her is "You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough." She did. She lived life the way we all should...faithful, free spirited and not giving a crap what other people thought! Ha-wouldn't we be so much better off with that kind of attitude. Thankful for all my grandparents and all they have given me in life.
