Holidays

Wow. I can't believe it takes me this long to post. I always feel like I'm going to be ahead of the game and blog every week or something. I look at other mom's blogs and wish I could be more diligent...Agh! But I'm here...and at least I getting down what I can!

It's been a wonderful last month or so. We had a couple of weekends at home, just being home. With the month of traveling in October we needed it! We spent Thanksgiving on the farm and then in Des Moines for the Meyer Christmas. We even managed to sneak away a day early to surprise Joan and go to the Quad Cities...it was a great trip.

We spent this weekend getting ready for Christmas. We had two brunch gatherings this weekend so yesterday after finishing brunch we came home, put Jackson down for his nap, and then woke him up at 4:00 so we could get to the tree farm before it got dark. Needless to say we were definitely there in the dark but managed to come home with a tree that looked okay in the light too! I can't believe how decorating the house for the holidays makes it so much homey. It's hard not to love this season and feel blessed to share it with family and friends.

Some stories from Jackson lately:
  • So ever since going home to the farm for harvest Jackson has been OBSESSED with tractors and everything farm. He refers to John Deere as Green Deere (which actually makes more sense :) ). Today when we picked him up from the nursery at church the lady who watched him said, "Okay he isn't supposed to be telling me what a skid loader, backhoe and combine are. My boys can just identify different balls." So funny.
  • His favorite songs are "Hey Soul Sister" and "Going out with my boots on" He loves to sing Hey Soul Sister and actually does the falsetto with his voice.
  • A couple of weeks back Jackson was sitting in his high chair and he kept saying, "Do diamond mommy." When I finally looked I realized he had made a diamond shape with his to hands joining thumbs and pointer fingers. Now he asks us to do all kinds of shapes with our fingers. "Do diamond daddy, do circle, etc." Just surprised me he came up with this on his own!
  • When we went to the Quad Cities on Thanksgiving we went to the John Deere Pavilion which has a bunch of big machinery in a building where kids can climb up in them/etc. Jackson was in HEAVEN. However, when he climbed up and sat in the chair he was a little disappointed. "Go daddy. Turn on daddy. Drive." Guess he has gotten a little spoiled with grandpa.
  • Grandpa also taught him how to stand on his head...so he has been loving that lately.
  • Mom and Dad made him a book with their recorded voices in it. Whenever he hears Grandpa he leans up to the speaker and says, "Go ride tractor Grandpa?"
  • We were laying in be the day after Christmas at my parents house. Jackson woke up and we sent him downstairs so we could sleep a little longer. He walked down the steps and in the happiest voice ever says, "Hi guys. Hi grandpa. Hi grandma." He really has become a little boy before our eyes.
