Ceaseless Activity...
It has simply been a crazy couple of weeks. Even as I say it I can't believe that we managed to get through it! A lot of great things have happened but we have just been extra busy. Well myself especially and at a certain point it just hits me that I don't want that. Life just passes by way to quickly to spend so much time filling it up and avoiding the important things-especially spending time with the little man who is just pure blessing
I read this following today in my devotional:
"I had to teach renewal of Spirit -- force rest of body to My Disciples. Then, as your Example, I lay with My Head on a pillow, asleep in the boat. It was not, as they thought, indifference. They cried, "Master, carest thou not that we perish?" and I had to teach them that ceaseless activity was no part of My Father's plan."
Ceaseless activity. How often do I find myself doing these things? The laundry list of things to accomplish is never done. . .especially as the work of a mother transcends any job and sits waiting for you as you walk in the door. The home becomes a sort of prison where I can just get consumed with the next thing that needs to get done. . .and fail to take the moments that really do mean the most.
This past weekend we had the blessing of spending some time with dear friends Andre and Jackie who have moved to Milwaukee. We saw our favorite artist, Martin Sexton, (if you haven't heard of him you definately should check him out) and we didn't get home until 3:30am on Saturday. It seriously was a night that will go down in our memory for years to come. Thanks Lesperances!
Since Jackson's crib incident we have been attempting to figure out the best sleeping situation. Sue found a car bed at a garage sale and although Jackson LOVES it, the transition to the big boy bed has come with its fair share of challenges. I believe the first week he was teething as he wasn't sleeping through the night-and sure enough an eye tooth has come in. Consequently-he only sleeps in the bed sideways-for some reason he doesn't like to lay the long way. All in all we are learning that a little boy with his style can make transitions like this easy and hard at the same time!
We celebrated our neighbor, Morgan's, birthday at the ice skating rink in town. Jackson was the second youngest person at the party-sported a blue shirt (thanks guys!) and had his first kiss with little miss Alli. I think we need to watch out for those two!!!
I had a garage sale with the Frey's. It was a lot of work! I'm glad its done though-it was so nice to get some of these things out of our house-but I think it might be a year or two before I do another one! Thank goodness for Andrea who sat there most of the time.
Grandma Joan came up to visit and take care of Jackson last week. It was excellent to have her-we just wished we would not have been so busy and had more time to just hang out. I think Jackson kept her plenty busy though. :)
Jackson is using his words a lot more frequently. He does better at repeating words we tell him and has really started to put words together like blue car, yellow car, car bed...etc. It is delightful.
Our constant prayer is that we cease our 'activity' and truly enjoy these days with him so as not to look back one day and wonder where it all went. I cannot believe it is almost May, that he is almost 20 months old. . .and that we are a month away from an assignment in Michigan. But I do know that I yearn to just take in every moment and live in the simplicity, wonder and awe of a child. My little blessing today was when he brought me back a flower from his walk with Kenzie. A purple flower of sorts, and he walked right up, gave it to me and gave me a kiss. God bless the little ones in our lives. :)
A beautiful reflection hun. You deserve the rest!
ReplyDeleteHow true...thanks for sharing Tash!
